How to Make a Funny Video for a Video Blog

First, find a video blog, or start one.

Then, make some funny videos that people will want to come and see.

As you may or may not now, creating a video blog is kind of hard. Well, it’s just that most of the free blogging platforms don’t serve video real well, so you are basically putting your funny videos on that one tube, and linking them on your site.

Serving up the videos yourself usually requires a bigger investment, which is why you might want to post your funny videos on someone else’s video blog. There are a bunch of really funny video blogs out there, but I really like www.fufflist.com.

Okay, you’ve found your video blog, now its time to make your funny video.

First, you need to be able to laugh and make fun of yourself. Each of us has something funny we can make a video about. For me, it’s the way I am so OCD about food. For you, it’s probably something else. But if you can’t make fun of something about yourself, you’re probably not going to be able to make a funny video. Unless you can tell a great joke.

So, think about what you think is funny about you, and think about 2 or 3 stories you can tell about yourself and this funny thing about you. On fufflist.com there is a really funny pair of videos made by a black girl about why she hasn’t dated any black guys. The videos are really funny, and she basically talks about how she doesn’t do the kind of things that most “black guys” do. The funny thing about herself that she is really talking about is the fact that she lives kind of a “white” lifestyle. So, think about your story, and get it ready.

Funny video Step 1 - Introduction

Who are you, and why should I watch more than the first 5 seconds? It helps to be hot, like the girl mentioned above. If you’re not gorgeous, you need a funny hook, and you need to drop it in the first 5-10 seconds.

“You know, my life is pretty good and low-key, except for that whole killing and eating my neighbors thing”. Speaking for myself, I’d keep watching.

Funny video Step 2 – the Story

Now, you don’t have to write the whole thing out in a script, but you do need to plan it. Also, if you are using more than 1 story, then you also need to plan a segue between the stories.

Funny Video Step 3 – Practice

The great thing about video is that you can record over it. So practice. Do the video. Watch it. Take notes about what you’re doing that you don’t like. Read the notes twice. Record it again. Wash rinse repeat. Also, make sure you have good facial expressions to go with your story.

Funny Video Step 4 – 1:00 – 3:00

Make your first funny video short. Load the front of it with funniness, then end. As you get more and more confidence about your writing/story skills, and your presence in front of the camera.

Once your funny video is good enough to make you laugh, post it on a video blog, and see what kind of response you get.
